Palos Verdes 58, Healdsburg 42--Palos Verdes fulfilled season-long expectations by winning the State Division III girls’ title.
The 16-point victory over Healdsburg, which is located in the Napa Valley, culminated a dominating postseason for the Sea Kings (32-2), who won eight games by an average margin of 34 points. The State final was the first time Palos Verdes had not won by at least 20 in the postseason.
Guard Kristen Mulligan, a junior who transferred to Palos Verdes last summer from Santa Margarita High in Orange County, had 14 points, four assists and five steals in 19 minutes, and Monique Morehouse, a 6-3 junior, powered the Sea Kings’ inside attack with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Raquel Alotis added 13 points, three assists and four steals.
Healdsburg (30-5) shot only 30% (16 of 54).
The game was delayed for about 10 minutes in the third quarter when Healdsburg freshman Shondra Stibi suffered a knee injury. She was taken to a hospital.
