KCOP Sunday Hitchcock Marathon: The Man Who Knew Too Much (9:30 a.m.), Rear Window (noon) and Vertigo (2:30 p.m.). These three ‘50s films represent the Master of Suspense at the height of his unique and formidable powers.
Woyzeck (Bravo Monday at 10:30 p.m.) Werner Herzog’s nightmarish 1978 film of the Georg Buchner play is an effectively bleak and stylized foreshadowing of the Hitler atrocities as Klaus Kinski, cast as an army private, endures a starvation diet in a crazy experiment.
Torrents of Spring (CMAX Tuesday at 8 p.m.) In Jerzy Skolimowski’s exquisite 1989 adaptation of Turgenev’s 1872 novel, which is as romantic as its title, Timothy Hutton plays a weakling Russian nobleman bewitched by Nastassja Kinski’s ruthless seductress. A treat for lovers of full-blown 19th-Century romanticism.
Open City (KDOC Saturday at 3:30 p.m.) The landmark Roberto Rosselini film, shot during Rome’s actual liberation, launched Neo-Realism internationally and brought worldwide acclaim to Anna Magnani.
