COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Krouse’s Triple Jump Gives Fullerton Women a Victory

Gina Krouse won the final event--the triple jump--on her final attempt to give the Fullerton women’s track and field team a 69 1/2-65 1/2 victory over Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference meet Friday in Fullerton.
Krouse, who competed in eight events, won with a leap of 33 feet 11 1/2 inches. Debbie LaPorte won the 100 meters (12.4 seconds) and the 200 (26.8) for Fullerton (4-1).
The Fullerton men won, 88-55, with Matt Wiley winning the shotput (54-2 1/2) and discus (145-11). Kevin Thomas won the 100 (10.8) and the 200 (22.0) and James Lugo won 800 (1:57.5) and the 1,500 (4:03.5) for Fullerton (4-1).
Lawrence Hatch won the long jump with a leap of 22-5 1/2 for Orange Coast (3-2).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming:
Orange Coast 137, San Diego Mesa 87--Nate Julson swam a 1:59.74, the best time in the state this year, in the 200-yard backstroke as OCC won at San Diego Mesa. Jason Bourland won the 50 freestyle (21.29) and the 100 freestyle (47.70) for OCC.
Saddleback 128, Palomar 114--Don Flood won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and was a member of the winning 400 medley relay, and Jason Armison won the 500 and the 1,000 freestyle for visiting Saddleback (5-0). Takanori Nozaki won the 200 backstroke and Eric Bird won the 200 butterfly and both were members of the 400 medley relay team.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:
Orange Coast 193, San Diego Mesa 103--Mandy Wightman won the 100 freestyle (55.52), the 200 freestyle (1:59.56) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.64) as OCC won its 74th consecutive dual meet. Christine Williams won the 50 butterfly (27:23), the 100 butterfly (1:00.55) and the 200 individual medley (2:18.12) for OCC.
Palomar 157, Saddleback 143--Emily Pavlovich won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races for visiting Saddleback (3-2). Heather Nasser won the 100 butterfly and Amy Fulton won the 50 backstroke for Saddleback.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Fullerton 10, Saddleback 2--Jennifer Farnik had two hits and five runs batted in for visiting Fullerton (8-12, 5-2). She had a triple in the first to drive in Fullerton’s first three runs and a single in the sixth to knock in the Hornets’ final two runs.
Erika Ostergaard (7-10) pitched seven innings for the victory. Wendy Clemens had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases for Saddleback (3-10, 1-5).
Golden West 2, Riverside 1--Pam Fogg (5-4) pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven, allowing two walks for host Golden West (10-8, 3-3). Stephanie Viola had two hits and an RBI for Golden West. Riverside is 7-5, 2-3.
Orange Coast 4, Rancho Santiago 2--Kristin Heizer (5-3) pitched a five-hitter for Orange Coast (18-10, 5-2). Joann Hernandez had two hits, including a triple, and scored for host Rancho Santiago (5-10, 0-6).
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 9, Williams College 0--The Saddleback men made it 35 in a row with the victory at home. Saddleback was 26-0 last season and is 9-0 this season. Fabian Skarvad won in singles, 6-2, 6-2, then combined with Max Alvarez to win in doubles, 6-4, 6-0.
