Restoration of Emir’s Palace

There are some glaring omissions in Joe Scott’s tally of winners and losers of the Gulf War (Commentary, March 8). Among the losers, he fails to mention the soldiers on both sides who lost their lives, the thousands of civilians, including women and children, who lost their lives, the grieving families of those who died, not to mention the loss of wildlife, environmental destruction and the loss of billions of dollars that could have been spent on housing, medical care, education, drug treatment and other domestic needs.
The biggest loser was the cause of peace. We need to change our win-lose mentality if we are to avoid more tragic losses.
