United’s Heathrow Deal Hits Snag: British authorities have agreed to review the transfer of landing slots at London’s Heathrow Airport to United Airlines following an appeal from Virgin Atlantic Airways, sources said. The review amounts to an unexpected suspension of the process by which United takes over the slots it has agreed to buy from Pan American World Airways, said David Tait, executive vice president for Virgin’s North American operation. Chicago-based United is due to begin service to Heathrow on April 3. It might have to give up some slots if the British-based carrier’s appeal is successful.
