SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Montclair Prep Romps to 16-6 Win

Top-seeded Montclair Prep scored 10 runs in the second inning and cruised to a 16-6 victory over host Mission Prep of San Luis Obispo in a Southern Section 1-A Division baseball quarterfinal Friday.
Montclair Prep (19-3), the defending 1-A champion, sent 15 batters to the plate in the second.
J. T. Billingslea and Shad Knighton each had three of Montclair Prep’s 17 hits. Dylan Jones, Andy Shaw, Russell Ortiz and Geoff Taylor each added two hits.
Osman Kahn (1-2) earned the victory for Montclair Prep in relief of starter Steve Cain.
In Tuesday’s semifinals, the Mounties will meet San Jacinto, which defeated Faith Baptist on Friday, 15-6.
2-A DIVISION QUARTERFINALS
Fillmore 5, Monrovia 2--A three-run third inning paced the Flashes’ victory over host Monrovia (13-9).
Fillmore (18-3-1), which led, 4-1, after three innings, took advantage of seven hits and six errors in advancing to the semifinals. On Tuesday, Fillmore will meet top-seeded Norte Vista, which defeated Atascadero, 12-2.
Fillmore’s Juan Duran (5-2), a senior right-hander, scattered eight hits, struck out three and did not walk a batter. Art Sosa and Anthony Chessani each went two for three for the Flashes.
Temple City 1, Santa Clara 0--Visiting Temple City (18-5) scored in the fourth inning. William Edwards (3-1) took the loss for Santa Clara (15-7), which had only two hits.
SMALL SCHOOLS QUARTERFINALS
Linfield 6, Providence 0--Linfield’s Rick Hunter, a sophomore right-hander, pitched a no-hitter against host Providence. Hunter struck out eight, walked one and allowed only three baserunners. Providence (17-5) advanced only one runner to third base.
Top-seeded Linfield (23-0) managed only three singles against Robert Mena (9-3) but scored three unearned runs. Linfield scored five runs in the second, taking advantage of two passed balls and four walks. Mena struck out six and walked six.
SOFTBALL
Oakwood 2, Templeton 1--Oakwood had just one hit but scored two runs on two ground outs to beat the defending champion Eagles (20-3) in a Southern Section Small Schools Division quarterfinal at Templeton.
Sophomore Tracy Stern (17-3) threw a two-hitter, struck out two and walked one.
Oakwood (18-3) will make its first appearance in a semifinal, meeting Woodcrest Christian on Tuesday.
TENNIS
Sean McKenna and Jason McKenna of Thousand Oaks defeated the Righetti doubles team of Brad Dantzer and Frank Solorio, 6-1, 6-2, but lost to Trenton Rhoades and Brian Walden of Corona del Mar, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section individual playoffs.
David Murphy of Pasadena Poly came from behind to beat Gary Potter of Thousand Oaks, 0-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the second round.
