A man robbed a bank of $800 Monday afternoon after he told a teller he had a gun, police said.
The robber approached the teller at the American Savings Bank branch at 7830 Edinger Ave. and announced, “This is a robbery. I have a gun, but I don’t want to use it,” said Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Louis Ochoa.
No gun was seen, Ochoa said.
After the teller gave the man the money, police said, the robber ran out the back door of the bank. Police believe the man may have checked out the bank earlier in the day, Ochoa said. The robber may at that time have been in a light yellow van, he added.
Police described the robber as as Asian, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds and wearing a gray sweat shirt and camouflage-print pants.
