Assembly OKs Bill to Use Drug Assets for Programs

A bill to use $1 million in assets seized from drug dealers to fund drug and gang prevention programs around Los Angeles County passed the state Assembly on Monday and headed for the Senate.
The money will fund 14 programs that serve “elementary and high school kids before they get mixed up with drugs and gangs,” said the bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar).
The funds will come from cash seized by police, along with the sale of cars, boats and houses relinquished by suspects.
