Front-running Chance from the Los Angeles Yacht Club continued as overall leader in the 2,216-mile Transpacific race to Hawaii, reporting a position 953 miles from the Diamond Head finish line. Bob McNulty’s Santa Cruz 70 was among the boats enjoying northeast trade winds up to 12 knots close to the rhumb, or direct, line, while those farther south struggled in 5 knots of wind.
