MGM-Pathe Communications reached a multimillion-dollar settlement of a dispute over residual payments allegedly owed by several of its Cannon subsidiaries to the Screen Actors Guild, the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America West . . . Baker Hughes Inc., Houston, reported that the number of working oil and gas rigs in the United States rose by 17 to 845 rigs, 177 less than the 1,022 working at this time a year ago.
