The City Council has granted a Northern California developer the rights to buy property and proceed with plans to build a $35-million shopping center where aging homes and businesses now stand in Huntington Park.
Representatives of the Diamond Springs-based Staff Consolidated said they can now finalize sales agreements with property owners on the proposed building site. Staff Consolidated wants to build a 300,000-square-foot shopping center on the four-block parcel stretching from Pacific Boulevard east to Santa Fe Avenue, and from 57th Street south to Slauson Avenue.
About 60 businesses and 50 residences will have to be relocated before construction can begin.
