Lion I’s Get Pride of Place

Those reggae rockers, the Lion I’s, seem to be on a mission of late. They have been integrating local night spots that typically feature soundtracks supplied by DJs or the dreaded Top 40 cover bands, and making the patrons dance to some good, original music.
Within the past few months, the band has played the Bombay Bar & Grill and Garfield’s in Ventura and Sharky’s in Oxnard.
And now, it’s Sergio’s Cantina in Westlake Village on a Friday night.
“The stage is pretty small, but the place is pretty big,” said guitarist Dave Spasiano. I think they’re just starting to have live music.”
The Lion I’s are the best-drawing band in the 805 area code, better than Spencer the Gardener, better than Raging Arb & the Redheads, better than the Dycondras. That’s because the band plays hook-filled rock and ska-influenced reggae, and the group never fails to exhaust any number of dancers. And they do 90% originals.
Sergio’s Cantina is located at 3835 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village. The fun begins at 9 p.m. For information, call 495-7476.
