SAN CLEMENTE : City’s Water Use Declines by 38%
- Share via
City officials want to get the word out: Water usage in the city is down 38%, thanks in part to some cool weather and a drop in tourism.
To spread the news, the City Council has approved a $10,910 project to develop a flyer that will be mailed to residents and businesses. The notice is expected to be sent out in two weeks and will include up-to-date information on penalties, conservation status, existing restrictions and projections for future water supply.
Lois Thompson, the city’s water conservation coordinator, said customers were mandated to cut usage by 20% but exceeded the goal because cool weather reduced the need for outdoor irrigation. In addition, a drop in tourist visits to the city has cut usage.
