Man Shot in Jewelry Robbery at Hotel

A Missouri man was shot in the chest and robbed of an estimated $100,000 in jewelry late Friday night in Mission Valley, San Diego police reported.
The victim, Rick Mikulick, 34, of Parkville, Mo., was in critical condition Saturday at Mercy Hospital, a spokesman there said.
San Diego Police Lt. Tom Orden said Mikulick was entering the lobby of the Radisson Hotel just before midnight Friday when he was approached by the gunman, who first tried to grab the suitcase. The two men struggled, Orden said, and Mikulick was shot.
The suspect ran toward a get-away vehicle, then “quickly returned and took the suitcase,” which contained $100,000 in jewelry, Orden said.
