A 14-year-old boy who was walking near two groups of men as they confronted each other Thursday was hit by a bullet fired from one of the groups, police said.
The shooting occurred as heated words were exchanged between people in a red Nissan and men standing on the corner of Greenville Street and Stanford Avenue at 3:08 p.m.
A man left the car and fired shots at the group but missed. He hit the boy, who was walking in the group’s direction, said Santa Ana Police Lt. Dave Nick.
The boy ran to the Stater Bros. Market at the corner of Fairview Road and Edinger Avenue for help, Nick said. He was in stable condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center.
No one is in custody.
