Pius X 42, Laguna Beach 0--Laguna Beach fell behind early and host Pius X coasted to the nonleague victory in front of 450 at Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors got a strong rushing performance from running back Ryan Brass, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior who rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns in 12 carries. After a nine-play, 54-yard scoring drive on the Warriors’ first possession--capped off by a 14-yard reception by Patrick Pitts--Brass scored on runs of 11 and one yards to give Pius (2-1) a 21-0 halftime lead.
Pitts scored his second touchdown on an eight-yard run, and Oscar Precado recovered a fumble in the end zone to increase the Warrior lead to 35-0.
The Artists mounted one serious scoring threat in the third quarter. Laguna Beach drove 88 yards to the Pius one but turned the ball over on downs.
Pius X capped its scoring by driving 99 yards in eight plays. Freddy Melendez carried the ball for the touchdown from 11 yards.
