GARDEN GROVE — About 100 residents were evacuated from a retirement home Saturday after an electrical fire in a heating unit pumped black smoke into second-floor rooms, Garden Grove fire officials said.
“It scared some people, but there were no injuries,” Fire Capt. Keith Osbourn said.
The fire caused about $5,000 in damage to one of eight heating units on the roof and minor structural damage to the Valley View Royal home at 5900 Chapman Avenue, Osbourn said.
The two-level home’s other heating units will be able to make up for the lost heater, he said.
