Sophomore running back George Keiaho scored two touchdowns to lead Buena High to a 21-12 victory over Dos Pueblos on Saturday night at San Marcos High and help the Bulldogs earn a share of their first Channel League championship since 1973.
Buena (8-2, 6-1 in league play) finished in a tie with Ventura (8-2, 6-1), but Ventura earned the league’s No. 1 playoff seeding because of its 14-10 win over Buena on Nov. 1.
The Bulldogs led, 7-6, at halftime despite only 14 yards in total offense. On Buena’s first possession of the second half, the Bulldogs marched 66 yards in 11 plays and capped the drive with a two-yard run by Keiaho that extended their lead to 14-6. Junior quarterback Aaron Triana hit senior tight end David Furst with an 18-yard touchdown pass with 7 minutes 55 seconds left to give Buena a 21-6 lead.
