El Toro wasn’t the only perennial football power to miss the playoff party for the first time in ages.
When Capistrano Valley lost to Irvine, 17-13, Saturday and failed to earn the at-large berth in the Division II playoffs, it marked the first time the Cougars had missed postseason play since the school opened in 1977.

Valencia now has the longest current streak of playoff appearances with 10. Fontana is the leader in the Southern Section with 15.
