NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : States’ AIDS Outlay Soars to $330 Million

Money budgeted by states to combat acquired immune deficiency syndrome reached more than $330 million this year, with New York spending the most at $90.4 million, a survey found. The AIDS Policy Center of George Washington University said states-only spending for AIDS education, testing, research, administration and patient care increased from $26.3 million in 1986 to $330.6 million for this fiscal year. Federal health agencies allocated more than $800 million for AIDS in the last fiscal year. States with no money budgeted specifically for AIDS were Idaho, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming.
