TENNIS SOUTHERN SECTION 3-A DIVISION SEMIFINALS : Camarillo, Westlake to Play for Title

Faced with the prospect of meeting Ania Bleszynski, the nation’s top-ranked 16-and-under singles player, Westlake High looked to its doubles teams for help in a Southern Section 3-A Division girls’ tennis semifinal match Thursday.
And the Warriors’ No. 1 team of Alison Levitt and Kim Stuart and their No. 2 team of Lauren Mazur and Andrea Hura came through, sweeping all six sets to spark Westlake to an 11-7 win at Marlborough.
Westlake (19-2), the defending champion, advances to the final Tuesday against Camarillo, an 11-7 winner over Harvard-Westlake in the other semifinal.
“We just played great and it’s nice to be in the finals again,” Westlake Coach Connie Flanderka said. “It was a tight match and we knew that since they had Ania we had to win some key matches.”
The final is an intriguing match-up. The teams met twice in the Marmonte League season and on both occasions the match ended in a 9-9 tie.
Westlake was declared the winner in the first meeting by virtue of total games won; Camarillo won the second match using the same criterion.
