Bonnie Blair won the women’s 1,000-meter race and Dan Jansen tied for first place with Uwe-Jens Mey of Germany in the men’s 500-meter sprint in the first round of the World Cup at Berlin.

Blair finished first in the women’s 1,000 meters with a clocking of 1 minute 22.54 seconds, edging Monique Garbrecht of Germany, who was timed in 1:22.82.

Jansen and Mey were timed in a track record 36.87 seconds. Jansen also was fourth with a time of 1:15.58 in the 1,000 meters, won by Igor Shelesovski of the Soviet Union in 1:14.06.
