Detmer, Howard Lead Selections; UCLA’s Darby Also Makes Team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brigham Young quarterback Ty Detmer and Michigan wide receiver Desmond Howard are among 24 players voted to the Kodak All-America team by the American Football Coaches Assn.
Detmer won the Heisman Trophy last year and Howard is the leading contender for this year’s award.
UCLA is represented by defensive back Matt Darby. Michigan and Miami each have two players on the Kodak team. Michigan also has offensive lineman Greg Skrepenak, and Miami has kicker Carlos Huerta and defensive back Darryl Williams.
Among the offensive linemen is Troy Auzenne of California, a former La Puente Bishop Amat standout. Others are linemen Jay Leeuwenburg of Colorado, Ray Roberts of Virginia and Tim Simpson of Illinois; running backs Vaughn Dunbar of Indiana and Trevor Cobb of Rice; wide receiver Carl Pickens of Tennessee, and tight end Kelly Blackwell of Texas Christian.
The defense also includes backs Kevin Smith of Texas A&M; and Terrell Buckley of Florida State; linebackers Robert Jones of East Carolina and Steve Tovar of Ohio State; and linemen Steve Emtman of Washington, Brad Culpepper of Florida, Santana Dotson of Baylor, Leroy Smith of Iowa and Levon Kirkland of Clemson. The punter is Mark Bounds of Texas Tech.
