The young violinist really digs into this obviously congenial repertory, interpretively and technically, making a particularly convincing case for the late-Romantic charms of Taneyev’s rarely heard opus. He supplies a big, not unpleasantly gritty sound, stimulated by Ardakov’s pertinent, expressive accompaniment, and delivers both intense lyricism and firmly focused bravura.
