MISSION VIEJO — The Gay and Lesbian Students of Saddleback club has donated the Encyclopedia of Homosexuality to the Saddleback College library.
The encyclopedia will be placed in the library’s reference section, according to Ron Albright, faculty adviser to the club.
Saddleback librarian Gita Satyendra-Holland said the text will provide access to information critical to studies on gay and lesbian issues that had not been available at the college in the past.
“We are so thankful that the Gay and Lesbian Students of Saddleback chose to purchase this for the library,” said Satyendra-Holland. “We have seen a dramatic increase this semester in students doing research papers on gay and lesbian issues, such as job and housing discrimination, hate crimes, outing and gay parenting. It hasn’t always been easy to find sufficient information on these topics, but this reference set will help a lot.”
The two-volume reference set cost $150. The club raised money for the purchase by selling tickets to the Saddleback Colle Foundation’s annual “Education: A Cause for Celebration” fund-raiser, Albright said.
