Cuban Bishops Urge Public to Shun Political Violence

HAVANA — Cuba’s Roman Catholic bishops, reacting to hostile demonstrations by pro-government Communist militants against political dissidents, appealed to authorities and the public Sunday to shun violence and avoid a “dangerous slide into hatred and revenge.”
Exasperation and irritation caused by the island’s growing economic crisis have raised the risk of violence, said a statement released after a recent meeting of the Cuban Episcopal Conference.
