OUTLOOK
After winning seven consecutive league titles, Bangs took a sabbatical from coaching last season, and his replacement, Russ Davis, accomplished something that had eluded Bangs--he coached the Warriors to a Southern Section title. Davis is now at Estancia, and Bangs is excited to return to coaching. He returns to a deep, well-balanced team. One thing lacking is a post-player. Deanna Harry, 6 feet 2, graduated and plays for Chapman, and now the Warriors are the only team among the top four in the league without a player 6-0 or taller. But they have three solid forwards in Fenton, Quinn and Taub. Quinn was a second-team all-league selection last season, and Taub, who was a second-team selection her sophomore season, has recovered from a serious knee injury that kept her out last season. Add to that Luppani, who may be the league’s best point guard, and a deep bench and it’s no wonder why Bangs believes his team will challenge for the title. It won’t be easy. “Nobody’s going to go undefeated,” Bangs said. “There will be one or two losses for the champion, that’s for sure.”
