OUTLOOK
The Tritons earned respect last year by playing Brea-Olinda tough in the Southern Section playoffs. With four starters back, Mulligan has a team that’s expected to battle Capistrano Valley for the league title. “In terms of experience and talent, we’re strong, but we need to learn to win the big games this year,” Mulligan said. “San Clemente has never won a girls’ basketball league championship, so we need to establish a winning tradition to build on.” Three of San Clemente’s starters--McOwen, Rohner and Netherby--were all-league selections last year, and combined to average 35 points. McOwen also averaged eight rebounds. Rohner and Netherby are three-point threats, and Mulligan expects MacIntyre to run the offense efficiently. Opponents also will have to contend with the Waldner twins--Alicia and Shawna--in San Clemente’s backcourt. Both are up from the junior varsity, and Mulligan says both are good shooters who will back up the off guard position. Lee is the backup point guard, while Washington adds depth to the front court.
