Southwest Texas State football Coach Dennis Franchione, 40, was named New Mexico’s new head coach, replacing Mike Sheppard, who was fired last month after compiling a 9-50 record in five seasons, 3-9 this season. Franchione was 13-9 in two seasons at Division I-AA Southwest Texas State.
