The Ventura County coroner’s office identified Richard Zajkowski as the man killed Thursday night by a train as he and his wife walked on a trestle in Oxnard.
Zajkowski, 39, who did not have a known address or occupation, was pronounced dead shortly after the 6:45 p.m. accident.
Police said Zajkowski and his wife, Patricia, were walking along the trestle, which spans Oxnard Boulevard, when a southbound Amtrak passenger train approached.
The victim’s wife may have been saved by a gust of wind generated by the oncoming train, which pushed her to the side of the tracks, Oxnard police said. She was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and released.
