Ventura Wins 1st-Round Match in State Volleyball Tournament

Ventura College handed Diablo Valley its first loss of the season in an opening-round match of the state junior college women’s volleyball tournament Friday at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
The Pirates, the South region’s second-seeded team, had little trouble with the third-seeded team from the North, winning, 15-7, 15-2, 15-9.
Ventura (22-0) will meet Cerritos today at 3 p.m. in a winners’-bracket match. Other schools advancing to the winners’ bracket were Cuesta, which swept Kings River, and Golden West, which swept Sequoias. Cerritos beat Allan Hancock in three games.
