Hoffman-LaRoche Buys Cetus Technology: LaRoche paid $300 million for the polymerase chain reaction technology, which enables scientists to make millions of copies of a single segment of DNA. The deal was finalized after shareholders’ approval of the merger of Cetus and Chiron, its Emeryville, Calif., neighbor. Roche set up a separate operating unit and agreement with Perkin-Elmer Corp. for PCR-related business.
