PREP NOTES

Huntington Beach’s Jeff Deffenbaugh and Maria Cerda won the boys’ and girls’ titles at the Nike Aqua Gear Sunset All-Star surfing championships Wednesday at the Huntington Beach Pier.

Deffenbaugh, a two-time finalist at the Op junior championships, edged Huntington Beach teammate Mike Mattison in the finals, which were contested in two- to four-foot surf. Cerda upset teammate Sunshine Mehler in the girls’ final.

Edison’s Jeremy Oderkirk won the bodyboard title, followed by Huntington Beach’s Adam Leache and Edison’s Ryan Mahar.

Huntington Beach won the Sunset Surfing League team title with a 10-0 record, followed by Marina (7-3), Edison (5-5), Fountain Valley (5-5), Ocean View (3-7), Westminster (0-10).
