FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NOTES

Near the end of Monday’s Southern Section football luncheon, Trabuco Hills running back Jeff Clayton was ready to dig into his dessert--a bowl of vanilla ice cream--when he paused and looked across the table at his coach, Jim Barnett.
“Is it OK, coach?” Clayton asked.
Barnett nodded and smiled.
Barnett has been after his 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back about his diet lately.
“I caught him earlier eating some gummy bears,” Barnett said. “He wonders why he has been caught from behind twice this year.”
