Altadena : Height-Limit Law Studied
Responding to residents’ complaints, Town Council Chairman Gene Coffman asked the Land Use Committee to look into recent county enforcement of a longstanding law limiting front-yard fences and bushes to 3 1/2 feet in height.
Coffman asked Land Use Committee Chairwoman Camille Dudley to appoint a subcommittee to recommend how the law might be enforced without overburdening residents.
Coffman said that the 1963 law has never been enforced, leaving the unincorporated area with many violations. Enforcement was initiated by a resident complaint, he said.
Councilman Steven Lamb, who serves on the Land Use Committee, said the county Regional Planning Department has asked the committee to supply the addresses of all visible violators, but the committee has declined to cooperate.
