NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Nearly 25 years after two brass bells were stolen from his ice cream truck, Joe Queen got them back for Christmas.
Queen, 72, found them on his porch in a cardboard box on Christmas morning.
“Do you remember?” read a note included with the bells. “I did.” The note said the bells were taken in 1967, 1968 or 1969. “Sorry. Merry Christmas.”
“Somebody took those bells and evidently their conscience bothered them ever since,” Queen said.
Included with the bells was a one-pound box of cookies.
