World IN BRIEF : SWEDEN : Ice Suspected in Jet Crash-Landing

Swedish government investigators said that shattered ice may have caused an engine failure that forced an SAS MD-80 jetliner to crash-land with 129 people aboard. No one was killed in the crash. The Civil Aviation Authority team investigating Friday’s crash also said a mechanic had not followed established rules for checking ice on the wings. “Ice could have broken loose and been sucked into the (rear-mounted) engines,” said Olof Forssberg, investigation leader.
