Blacks, Latinos and Rebuild L.A.

Xavier Hermosillo’s article “Latino’s Defend Right of All to Work” (Commentary, July 9) is right on! Finally a spokesman for the Latino community has stood up and told it like it is.
Hermosillo recognizes that all people have the right to work regardless of their color. The Latino people of Los Angeles recognize that it is ethnic diversity that makes this city great. Our people want to work and participate in our community to make it a model of true brotherhood. Let the rebuilding of the city be by the crafts people of all races.
This concept of rebuilding Los Angeles apparently is unacceptable to Brotherhood Crusade President Danny Bakewell. He advocates a reverse racism position of a separatist black community for African-Americans only. Sorry, Mr. Bakewell, we’re here and we’re going to stay. Latinos will work, break bread and pray with people of all colors in our community. The Constitution of America guarantees it. Martin Luther King fought and died for it.
