Moving Decision Perfectly Normal

Susan Christian’s ode to Dr. Ross Donald (“Successful M.D. Exits L.A.’s Fast Lane,” July 1) is a classic example of the pregnant-patient-falling-in-love-with-male-Ob-Gyn syndrome.
Donald’s decision to migrate from Los Angeles to Ketchum, Idaho, thereby seeking a safer, simpler, saner environment in which to raise his children seems perfectly normal, rational, and ordinary to me. Is this event truly newsworthy?
Donald’s professional success has allowed him to control his own destiny. Too many in our society lack this control and are prisoners of their miserable financial circumstances.
Does a poor single mother continue to live in some wretched, gang-impacted part of L.A. because of an unwillingness to leave behind the excitement of Los Angeles?
Or is she stuck there because she can’t afford to move?
