Moving Decision Perfectly Normal

So Dr. Ross Donald is giving up his successful practice to move to Ketchum, Idaho, and his wife thinks this is an act of courage. Oh, puh-leese .

Who doesn’t yearn for a return to Main Street? But for most working stiffs, this frontier fantasy will never materialize.

Unlike the good doctor, we cannot simply pick a spot, hang a shingle and be guaranteed a steady income in our vocation. Heck, for the sale price of his Spanish-type manse in . . . Santa Monica, Donald could probably buy the whole town of Ketchum.

What angers me is your ridiculous insinuation that this enviable midlife move requires real guts.

How about the regular folks trying to raise a family in L.A.--those of us who have no choice but to bet the future of our children on the Los Angeles Unified School District? Now, that’s a risk.

With no easy way out, you’ve got to stick it out. In L.A., coping is the ultimate act of courage.
