SANTA ANA — The Orange County district attorney’s office on Monday filed two felony charges against a Santa Ana woman who allegedly tossed her newborn infant out of a first-story window last week.
Deputy Dist. Atty David LaBahn charged Maria Bonilla, 18, with attempted murder and felony child abandonment. Police arrested Bonilla early Thursday at her apartment on Santa Ana Boulevard after she delivered a four-pound baby boy in a bathtub and then allegedly threw him out the window, police said.
The boy, who was in stable condition Monday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, was found wrapped in a T-shirt after he began crying and woke neighbors.
Following her arrest, Bonilla was taken to the jail ward at Western Medical Center-Anaheim and was scheduled to appear today in Central Municipal Court in Santa Ana for arraignment, LaBahn said. Bail for Bonilla was set at $250,000.
LaBahn said his investigation is continuing.
