Hunger Committee

Here is a clarification on the House Select Committee on Hunger (letter, Dec. 23), quoting from a letter to me from Rep. Tony Hall (D-Ohio), the chair of that committee: “. . . all the select committees faced a particularly tough hurdle . . . when the Democratic Caucus considered a last-minute amendment to their proposed reorganization package. That amendment would have instructed the Rules Committee to limit the reauthorization of all select committees to no more than one year. The other select committee chairs and I crafted a substitute amendment that deleted the ‘sunset’ component from the previous amendment. Our amendment was adopted.”
As a result of the acceptance of this amendment, the select committees will be reauthorized for the full two years.
