Vail Talk

Your travel piece on Vail, Colo., (“Why Vail Works,” Jan. 10) in the midst of a national boycott was an unenlightened choice that betrayed not only gay men and lesbians but the wider readership of Los Angeles who believe and support the principle of equality of all U.S. citizens.
The enlightened choice would have been to hold the piece until Colorado revoked its discriminatory law, even if that meant holding publication until next winter.
The unenlightened choice--to run the story--abnegates the leadership role in the city and country that your paper maintains when it is convenient as a public relations tool or for financial benefit.
