NEWPORT BEACH : 3 to Study Candidates for Superintendent
- Share via
Newport-Mesa Unified School District officials have selected three California educators to screen candidates for the superintendent post.
The three are Richard Clowes, a retired associate dean at USC; Ernie Garcia, a retired dean at Cal State San Bernardino, and LaVoneia Steele, superintendent of the Berkeley Unified School District.
They were suggested to the district by an executive search firm operated by the California School Boards Assn. that was hired to recruit superintendent candidates.
The three will check resumes and conduct reference checks to whittle a growing pool of applicants down to about a dozen by the first week in May. At that point, a 45-member committee will evaluate the remaining candidates and make recommendations to the school board, which must choose.
The application deadline is April 23. Officials hope to fill the office by summer.
