THOUSAND OAKS : Bullet Hits Wall Near Sleeping Resident

A bullet passed through the open window of a Thousand Oaks house early Wednesday and lodged in a wall of a bedroom where an occupant was sleeping, authorities said.

No one was injured in the 3 a.m. incident.

Julian Bustamonte told Ventura County sheriff’s deputies that his family was awakened by the sound of gunfire near their home in the 300 block of Houston Drive, just north of the Ventura Freeway. Authorities said the bullet tore into a bedroom wall where Bustamonte’s 18-year-old daughter was sleeping.

Deputies discovered a bullet-riddled freeway sign nearby, and investigators believe that the bullet might have ricocheted into the house, said Sgt. Keith Parks.
