Pacific Tackle Bishop Finally Gets the Call

Greg Bishop, a University of Pacific tackle, became so bored watching the NFL draft at his parent’s home in Lodi on Sunday, he fell asleep.
Shortly after he woke up, he heard screaming coming from downstairs, where his father and sister were watching television.
“Greg, get down here . . . you’ve just been drafted,” shouted his father, Larry.
Bishop’s name had just flashed on the screen as the 93rd pick, to the New York Giants in the fourth round.
By the time Bishop raced to the family room, though, his name had disappeared, and he thought his family had been seeing things.
“Nobody from the Giants called me, so I didn’t think I had actually been picked,” he said. “But then they finally called.”
And so ended a worrisome month for one of four Pacific players, who, because of their small school and weak conference, were worried that they would not be drafted.
Ryan Benjamin, Aaron Turner and Troy Kopp were not taken in the first four rounds Sunday.
