BUENA PARK — Fedco Inc. said it will spend more than $11 million to remodel the former May Co. building at Buena Park Mall, turning it into the largest store in the Fedco membership discount chain.
The Santa Fe Springs-based retailer said the new store would have as many as 700 full- and part-time employees and would generate more than $700,000 in annual sales tax revenue. The Buena Park City Council must approve Fedco’s plans for the store.
The 240,000-square-foot store should open in October, said Michael Gantes, Fedco’s merchandising director.
The three-level store would be divided into three shopping environments, he said, with a farmers’ market and food court on the ground level, general merchandise at the mall level and electronics and home and office furnishings departments on the top floor.
Gantes said that the store would also incorporate “a lot of new ideas” in retail merchandising but added that he wasn’t yet ready to disclose those ideas.
