VAN NUYS : Woman Appeals Denial of Day-Care Center

A woman who lost her bid for a day-care center following opposition from City Councilwoman Joy Picus and local homeowners has appealed the decision to the city Board of Zoning Appeals, officials said.
Last month, Michelle Ventimiglia of Van Nuys was denied a conditional use permit to convert a home on Keswick Street into a 48-student day-care center. A city zoning official denied the request, saying the business would have too many children and create too much noise.
Van Nuys Homeowners Assn. president Don Schultz, who opposed the day-care center, said he is poised to fight Ventimiglia’s appeal.
“We will continue our opposition to the project,” Schultz said.
City zoning officials said the appeal could be heard within the next several weeks. Ventimiglia could not be reached for comment.
