Popovich Returns as Marina Basketball Coach

Steve Popovich, who coached the Marina boys’ basketball program for 17 seasons before resigning last year, again was named the Vikings’ coach, Athletic Director Larry Doyle said Monday.
Popovich returned after being an assistant coach last season at Saddleback. He replaces Greg Hoffman, who resigned after last season.
Popovich, who coached the Vikings to the 1991 Southern Section I-A championship game, resigned as coach last year to take a similar position in Aurora, Colo. The plans fell through, and he returned to Marina last year as a teacher.
