NATIONAL LEAGUE ROUNDUP : Mitchell Powers Reds Past the Rockies, 13-5

Kevin Mitchell went four for four and hit a home run--giving him three homers, three doubles and a triple in his last 10 at-bats--as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies, 13-5, at Cincinnati on Friday night.
Reggie Sanders capped a five-run first inning with his fifth homer of the season as the Reds extended their major league-best winning streak to five games.
Tim Pugh (3-3), who had lost two in a row, gave up seven hits, walked four and struck out one in seven innings. Andy Ashby (0-3) was knocked out in the third inning and has lost six consecutive games.
The Rockies’ Jay Gainer homered during the second inning, becoming the 66th player to homer in his first official major league at-bat. He is the 12th player to homer on the first pitch. The last player to homer in his first at-bat--and on the first pitch--was Junior Felix, for Toronto on May 4, 1989.
Atlanta 10, Philadelphia 7--Ron Gant and Terry Pendleton each drove in three runs to lead the Braves past the Phillies at Atlanta.
The Braves, who have won three consecutive games and seven of their last eight, got home runs from Gant and David Justice and four hits from Pendleton. Atlanta knocked out the National League’s earned-run average leader, Terry Mulholland (4-4), after only two innings.
Tom Glavine (5-0) gave up seven hits, six runs, walked two and struck out four in five innings. Mike Stanton earned his league-leading 14th save.
Montreal 8, New York 7--Marquis Grissom had four hits for the second game in a row at Montreal, including a club record-tying three doubles, as the Expos outlasted the Mets.
The Mets committed three errors, which led to five unearned runs.
Met starter Frank Tanana also contributed to the Mets’ poor play by throwing two wild pitches and hitting three batters with pitches.
Tanana gave up six runs on four hits, but the loss went to Jeff Innis (0-2), who gave up two runs on three hits in one third of an inning.
Winner Scott Aldred (1-0) gave up one earned run on two hits, struck out one and walked one in 1 1/3 innings.
San Diego 3, San Francisco 1--Greg Harris cooled off the Giants with a six-hitter and ended Matt Williams’ hitting streak at 15 games as the Padres ended a four-game losing streak at San Diego.
Fred McGriff hit his seventh homer of the season on a 3-and-0 pitch from Jeff Brantley (2-3) during the sixth inning. Kurt Stillwell hit his first leading off the seventh.
Harris (3-5) threw his first complete game since April 29, 1992.
St. Louis 7, Florida 2--Bob Tewksbury gave up two runs in eight innings to lead the Cardinals past the Marlins at St. Louis.
Tewksbury (3-3) gave up eight hits, struck out five and walked none before Mike Perez relieved.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the second against Chris Hammond (3-3) on a single by Gregg Jefferies, a wild pitch, and a single by Geronimo Pena.
Chicago 3, Pittsburgh 2--Mark Grace drove in two runs to support Mike Harkey to lift the Cubs at Chicago.
Grace had a run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly, and Willie Wilson had three singles, scoring twice, against Steve Cooke (1-2).
Harkey (4-1) gave up two runs and nine hits in six-plus innings, including two singles and a double by Andy Van Slyke.
Jose Vizcaino extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a third-inning single.
